After James Seymour

A charming oil on canvas painted after James Seymour (1702–1752), one of Britain’s most celebrated early sporting artists. Entitled ‘Groom Watering the Horse’, the composition depicts a groom standing beside a white horse drinking from a rustic trough outside a stable, capturing the quiet elegance of 18th-century equestrian life.

The reverse bears identification details together with a conservation label stating the painting has been hand relined with beeswax and dammar resin, and the front is fitted with an engraved presentation plaque, adding further provenance and historical interest.

A beautiful traditional sporting painting that would make an excellent addition to any collection of equestrian, hunting or English country house art.
