Description
A charming late 19th / early 20th-century genre painting, The Flirtation, attributed to the Circle of David Woodlock (1842–1929), British.
The painting depicts two elegantly dressed women walking together through a European-style street, carrying baskets and engaged in a lively conversation. The informal social scene, expressive figures and loose, confident brushwork give the work a particularly attractive period character.
The artist’s handling of light and colour, together with the lively brushwork and everyday subject matter, is reminiscent of the genre tradition associated with David Woodlock.
