A charming late 19th-century Dutch School oil painting depicting a broad tranquil river or estuary, with a windmill and distant townscape beyond.

The composition features sailing vessels and small boats upon the water, with a prominent windmill and buildings along the shoreline. The muted golden-brown and green palette, atmospheric sky and beautifully rendered reflections create a wonderfully evocative Dutch river scene.

The painting is indistinctly signed and dated, visible within the artwork. The signature and date are difficult to decipher and have not been attributed to a particular artist.
