A highly atmospheric early 20th-century Dutch landscape by the listed artist Jacob Abraham Zon (1872–1932).

Painted in oil on board, the composition depicts traditional thatched cottages surrounded by bare trees and a winding rural track. Zon’s confident, expressive brushwork and muted palette beautifully capture the quiet character of the Dutch countryside.

Signed “Zon” lower left and presented within an impressive, deeply moulded gilt composition frame decorated with ornate foliate and shell motifs.

The reverse retains a printed record of an earlier eBay sale from 2006, where the work was described as an old Dutch oil painting by Jacob Abraham Zon and the frame as an original Edwardian-period gilt frame. This historic documentation will accompany the painting.

Condition

The painting is offered in antique condition with age-related surface wear, marks, abrasions and small areas of paint disturbance visible in places. The ornate frame displays cracking, chips, losses, rubbing, previous repairs and areas of retouching consistent with its age. The reverse has old tape and signs of historic reinforcement.
