Edward Wesson RI (1910–1983) – Guildford Cathedral Watercolour

A beautiful original watercolour by the highly regarded British artist Edward Wesson RI (1910–1983), depicting Guildford Cathedral within a tranquil Surrey landscape.

The composition captures the cathedral rising above the surrounding trees and countryside, with a reflective stretch of water in the foreground. Wesson’s characteristic loose and confident watercolour technique is evident throughout, with atmospheric washes, expressive brushwork and a beautifully restrained palette creating a sense of light and distance.

The work is signed by the artist and is presented in an attractive glazed gilt-effect frame with a wide mount.

The reverse bears an inscription identifying the artist, date of life and title “Guildford Cathedral”.

A charming example of 20th-century British watercolour painting, particularly appealing to collectors of Edward Wesson and traditional English landscape art.
