A beautiful atmospheric British landscape by James Campbell Noble (1846–1913), depicting a tranquil riverside scene with a barge being loaded against a softly illuminated evening sky.

The painting has a particularly evocative tonal quality, with muted greens, browns and warm golden-grey tones creating a peaceful late-day atmosphere. The figures, boats and riverbank are rendered with loose, expressive brushwork typical of a traditional British landscape painting.

The work is signed lower right.

The painting is presented in an impressive ornate gilt decorative frame, which complements the artwork beautifully.

Condition

The painting is offered in antique condition, with signs of age and use consistent with its period. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

The ornate antique frame has age-related wear, surface marks and areas of deterioration consistent with age. The frame is included with the painting as a complimentary original presentation frame and is not being sold as a separate item.

The reverse retains its original canvas/frame construction and hanging fittings, as shown in the photographs.
