John Allan

A superb original oil painting on board by British artist John Allan (1893–1979), depicting The Anglers Rest near Staines.

This atmospheric waterside scene captures a picturesque riverside setting, with the Anglers Rest public house prominently featured alongside the water. The composition includes traditional buildings, a wooden riverside walkway, boats, figures and lush surrounding trees, with beautiful reflections across the water.

The artist has used a rich and expressive palette of greens, ochres, reds and warm earthy tones, creating a charming sense of English riverside life.

The reverse is signed and inscribed, with a handwritten label identifying the subject as “Anglers Rest … Staines” and attributing the work to J. Allan.
