The work has a distinctive atmospheric and softly rendered quality, with the figure emerging from a muted green-grey ground. The painting is presented in an impressive vintage gilt composition frame, with an aged, distressed surface that complements the artwork beautifully.

The canvas bears a signature in red to the lower left, reading “BRACC…EUEL…” (illegible/unclear). The signature has not been independently authenticated and the painting is therefore offered as attributed to Brian Shields.

Condition

The painting is offered in pre-owned antique/vintage condition, with signs of age and use.

The gilt composition frame has age-related wear, losses, cracking and distressed areas consistent with its age. The reverse shows an older canvas/frame construction and associated age-related marks.
