After Domenichino / Domenico Zampieri

A beautiful 19th century watercolour painting on paper, after Domenichino, Italian, 1581–1641, depicting The Cumaean Sibyl.

The painting shows the Sibyl seated with a musical scroll, richly dressed in classical robes and turban-style head covering, presented in warm brown, cream and muted blue tones. The work is mounted in an ornate gilt wood frame with decorative Rococo-style scrolling and floral ornament, and is glazed.

A very decorative antique picture with strong Old Master influence, ideal for a traditional interior, gallery wall, study, music room, or collector of Italian School / Grand Tour style works.

The back has an old wooden panel and later hanging wire. There is an old handwritten label to the reverse.

Condition

Antique condition with wear consistent with age.

The painting is under glass and presents well. There are some age-related marks, surface specks and discolouration visible. The frame has noticeable wear, losses, cracks, chips and areas of damage to the gilt decoration, particularly around the edges and corners.
