Description
After J.B. Bouvier (Swiss, 19th Century)
Elegant Portrait of a Lady – Oil on Board
A charming 19th-century portrait of a lady, painted in the style of J.B. Bouvier, presented in a particularly impressive antique giltwood frame.
The sitter is depicted wearing an elegant pale blue-grey dress with a delicate veil, seated against a dark green drapery. The restrained palette and refined portrait style give the work a distinctly 19th-century European Romantic character.
The reverse retains an old handwritten French inscription, which appears to refer to a portrait and J.B. Bouvier, with a date of 1901 also visible. This historic inscription adds provenance interest and character to the piece.
The painting is offered as “After J.B. Bouvier” and is not represented as an original signed work by the artist.
