Jenny Lanjainais 19thC Portrait Mrs Walter Leith Alice Lee-Jortin Oil

A beautiful 19th-century British/French-style portrait depicting Mrs Walter Leith, née Alice Lee-Jortin, presented bust-length and wearing an elegant white dress with delicate flowers in her hair.

The sitter is portrayed against a softly atmospheric blue and landscape-toned background, with particularly fine attention to the face, hair and translucent folds of the white dress.

The painting is presented in an impressive antique giltwood frame with an oval aperture, featuring highly decorative Rococo-style carved ornamentation.

A brass identification plaque to the reverse reads:

Condition

The painting is offered in antique condition, consistent with its age. There is evidence of age-related surface wear and craquelure, together with old materials/conservation visible to the reverse. The antique frame also shows age-related wear, losses and imperfections to the gilding and decoration.
