William Cook of Plymouth

A charming antique watercolour study of a ram by William Cook of Plymouth, believed to date to circa 1880. The work is signed lower left and bears an old Fry Gallery, London label verso describing the piece as “Study of a ram”.

 

The ram is finely observed in soft natural tones, with expressive brushwork capturing the texture of the fleece and the curved horn detail. Presented in a gilt-lined card mount and moulded gilt frame under glass, this is an attractive 19th century animal study with good decorative and collecting appeal.
