A charming 19th-century Victorian oil painting depicting two children relaxing with their dog in a wooded rural landscape.

The scene shows a young boy and girl seated in the grass beneath trees, with their dog in the foreground. A softly illuminated countryside landscape extends into the distance, creating a warm and atmospheric composition.

The painting is signed with a monogram, believed to read “R.W.”, and dated 1881 in the lower-left corner.

Condition

The painting is presented in its attractive period-style gilt frame. There is visible age-related surface wear, including areas of craquelure, surface dirt, minor losses and rubbing to the paint, as shown in the photographs. The frame also has signs of age, wear and some losses. The reverse shows an old Connaught Galleries framing label.
