Description
A charming 19th-century oil on canvas depicting Cupid reclining amongst white drapery, with his bow and arrows positioned behind him. A dark atmospheric landscape forms the background, creating a strong contrast with the figure and giving the composition a dramatic, classical appearance.
The painting is after the work of Bartolomeo Schedoni (1578–1615), the Italian Baroque painter known for his religious and mythological compositions and distinctive treatment of figures.
The painting is unsigned.
The canvas has been relined, consistent with an older painting that has undergone conservation. Presented in a later ornate gilt frame with extensive classical foliate decoration.
