A highly atmospheric early-to-mid 20th-century Dutch oil painting on panel by Hermanus Antonius Van Daalhoff (1867–1953), depicting a family group gathered in a rustic cottage garden.

The painting demonstrates Van Daalhoff’s characteristic expressive and impressionistic approach, with softened forms, rich earthy tones and a warm, intimate rural atmosphere. The figures and surrounding vegetation are rendered with loose, painterly brushwork, creating a wonderfully evocative sense of village life.

The reverse is particularly interesting, being further signed and inscribed, with the date 1953. The verso also retains an old collection/inventory label identifying the work as H.A. van Daalhoff, Dorpsleven and recording it as oil on panel. Condition

The painting is presented in an attractive period gilt frame with signs of age and wear consistent with its vintage. The painted surface has an intentionally expressive, textured appearance. There may be areas of age-related surface wear, craquelure and patina consistent with an older oil painting. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition description.

The frame is included complimentarily and may show knocks, losses, rubbing and other signs of age.
