Hermanus Willem Koekkoek

Original oil on relined canvas, signed H. W. Koekkoek, depicting a charming Dutch riverside cottage scene with a maid hanging out washing beside the water.

The painting shows a traditional rural house or windmill-side building with a red tiled roof, figure detail, laundry hanging outside, trees and reflections in the water. It is presented in a highly decorative gilt frame with ornate scrolling floral and shell-style decoration.

The canvas has been relined, and the reverse retains a Cooling Galleries Ltd, London label, 38 Albemarle Street, London W1X 4QJ. The painting is also inscribed verso with the artist name.

Good antique condition overall, with age-related wear.

The canvas has been relined. There are visible surface marks, age-related dirt, craquelure, and small imperfections under close inspection. The ornate gilt frame has general wear, rubbing, losses, chips, cracks, and areas of aged patina, as shown in the photos.
