The sitter wears a pale Regency-style dress with puffed sleeves, lace detailing and a decorative brooch. The portrait has a dark interior background with a landscape visible to the left. Presented in a substantial antique gilt wooden frame.

The painting is unsigned or no signature has been located. Artist and sitter are unknown.

Condition

Antique condition with age-related wear throughout. The canvas displays craquelure, surface marks, areas of uneven varnish and an old vertical repair or restored tear above the sitter’s head. There may be other historic restoration or retouching.

The gilt frame has chips, losses, scratches, opened corner joints and general wear consistent with age. The hanging cord appears to be a later replacement. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
