R. F. Peckham

An attractive 19th-century oil on canvas portrait titled “A Man of Letters” by R. F. Peckham, retaining the original artist’s label on the reverse.

The composition depicts a distinguished bearded gentleman dressed in dark formal attire against a rich, atmospheric background. Executed in a refined academic manner, the portrait displays excellent characterisation with finely observed facial features, subtle tonal modelling and a restrained Victorian colour palette.
