Jules Gustave Le Roy (1856-1921) Antique Oil Painting Kittens Flowers Beach Gilt

A charming antique oil painting by Jules Gustave Le Roy (French, 1856–1921), depicting a delightful group of kittens nestled among colourful flowers in a rustic wooden basket on a sandy beach.

The composition captures four adorable kittens with beautifully individual expressions, surrounded by vibrant pink, red, purple and white flowers. Behind them, a weathered wooden beach structure and a glimpse of the blue sea create a picturesque coastal setting.

Le Roy was known for his delightful animal subjects, particularly his depictions of cats and kittens. This painting showcases the appeal of Victorian animal art, combining careful attention to the kittens’ features with a warm, colourful palette and an engaging narrative.

The painting is signed lower left and presented in an impressive ornate gilt frame, whose richly detailed decorative moulding complements the traditional character of the artwork.

A wonderful decorative piece for collectors of antique paintings, feline art enthusiasts, or anyone looking to add character and charm to a traditional, eclectic or country-style interior.
