Gaston Balande

The composition depicts a hillside village with pale stone buildings, warm terracotta rooftops and a prominent church tower, surrounded by tall trees and rolling green countryside. The restrained palette and expressive handling create a quiet, timeless rural atmosphere.

Painted in oil on board and signed “Balande” to the lower-left corner.

Presented in a substantial decorative giltwood frame with moulded corner ornamentation. The frame displays considerable character and age-related wear, complementing the antique appearance of the painting.

Pre-owned

Original vintage condition with age-related wear. The painted surface has scattered marks, small dark spots, light surface dirt and areas of craquelure or texture consistent with age. The decorative giltwood frame has visible cracking, losses, splits, rubbing and previous repairs, particularly around the corners and moulded decoration. The reverse has an older board backing with later hanging hardware. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
