Description

A charming original French street scene painting depicting Paris on 14 July 1930, capturing the atmosphere of a bustling Parisian street during the French national celebration of Bastille Day.

The painting, signed to the lower left and titled verso, portrays a picturesque Parisian streetscape with traditional buildings, a street café, pedestrians and a tram. The lively composition is rendered in expressive brushstrokes, with a subtle palette of warm earth tones, muted greens and soft architectural colours that evoke the character of early 20th-century Paris.

The reverse bears a handwritten inscription referring to “Coin de la Convention et de Vaugirard, Paris, 14 Juillet 1930”, identifying the street corner and date depicted. This historical detail adds particular interest to the work, connecting the painting to a specific location in Paris and the celebrations of Bastille Day.

Executed in oil on card and presented in an ornate gilt frame, this attractive painting would make a wonderful addition to a collection of French art, Parisian street scenes or European paintings. Its intimate scale and atmospheric character also make it ideal for display in a traditional or contemporary interior.
