An attractive and highly collectable Scottish landscape by celebrated Glasgow School artist James Paterson, depicting the tranquil waters of Loch Long illuminated by the warm glow of evening light. Rich autumnal colours, broad confident brushwork and beautifully observed atmospheric effects create a striking composition that perfectly captures the rugged beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

Paterson was one of Scotland’s most important landscape painters and a leading member of the famous Glasgow Boys circle. Living at Moniaive between 1885 and 1905, he developed the expressive plein-air style for which he became renowned, exhibiting widely throughout Britain.

The reverse retains an original Royal Institute of Oil Painters Member’s exhibition paper label, providing excellent provenance and further supporting the painting’s authenticity and exhibition history.

An outstanding example of early twentieth-century Scottish landscape painting that would make an excellent addition to any collection.
