Alexandre-François Bonnardel

A charming original oil on board by the French painter Alexandre-François Bonnardel (1867–1942), depicting an elegant woman in a soft pink dress, shown in profile against a muted outdoor landscape.

The painting has a particularly delicate, atmospheric quality, with expressive brushwork and subtle tonal variations. The informal treatment of the figure gives the work the character of a small-scale study or finished genre painting.

Signed lower left “A. Bonnardel”, consistent with the artist’s known signature style.

Bonnardel was associated with the Lyon School and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de Lyon from 1891, later becoming a professor there. His work included portraits, female figures, interiors, genre scenes and landscapes. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris and received an honourable mention in 1909.
