John Allan

A charming original oil painting on board by the British artist John Allan (1893–1979), depicting a picturesque rural waterside scene.

The painting shows a traditional building beside the water, surrounded by mature trees and vegetation. Two figures can be seen near the water’s edge, while the warm golden sky creates beautiful reflections across the foreground. The rich greens, earthy tones and expressive brushwork give the work a wonderfully atmospheric English countryside character.

The reverse bears a handwritten label referring to “Mapledurham” and an inscription reading “By J. Allan”, adding interesting provenance and collector appeal.

Condition

The painting is offered in original vintage condition, with considerable signs of age and use.

The painting remains highly decorative, with strong colours and attractive period character.
